  • Need US waypoint, shipping to Canada

    Hey guys,

The last few months I have been shopping around for guitar amps, and have pretty much narrowed it down to one; which is the Mesa Boogie Single Rectifier (Solo Head). My problem is as follows: EXTREMELY hard to find in Canada used, and the ones I have found have been really expensive ($1300 CAD and up, or almost $2000 new). I have seen many of those go on eBay for 700-850 USD, but none of the sellers are ever interested in shipping to Canada (I have questioned many of them on this, they either do not respond or just say no). I have no friends or family in the US that would be able to forward me such an item.

What I would like, from one of the long-time MURCers, is for someone to act as a waypoint for me. Shipping/forwarded details would be worked out between the two of us to figure out the best way, and I would probably throw in a small amount of cash for your trouble.

Or if anyone knows of a company or easier way to do this, let me know. I have offered to have a courier pick up the item, but they have still replied "no."

    Thanks!

We shipped an item to Canada once, and the problem is tariffs.. from what I gathered, they were very high.. something like $200 on a $500 item. I don't remember the particulars, but there was a huge mess of paperwork to fill out.

Now, if you knew someone in Minnesota, you could probably drive down and pick it up. Wait.. isn't there a MURCer in North Dakota?

well if I understand correctly, because of NAFTA, anything actually manufactured in US/Canada/Mexico should be able to be sent across with little or no fees. I think I will have to try contacting the Canadian Border/Customs

There's a website with all the info. The rules are quite complicated actually.

From experience it's a lot of work to figure out the exact part of NAFTA a particular item falls under and then correctly fill out the required certificate to ensure that the customs broker for the courier you choose doesn't arbitrarily slap fees on it.
        P.S. You've been Spanked!

If I were to pick it up in Minnesota/North Dakota, wouldn't the same charges apply? The only difference being I "might" be able to sneak it across?

You can also try using the regular postal service with the item marked as a "gift."

Do they not charge customs fees on gifts? If so that would be sweeeet

They do have these things called search engines on the web that let you find web sites that have information about what you're wanting to know.

Yeah I've actually been reading up on it, I heard this one called google(?) is good.

I've been reading a lot of junk on the purolator site, and I've checked out the CBSA site too, its seeming like the only major cost I will have to pay is like 7% PST, I will be reading further though. If it works out that the seller still wishes to send to the states only, It will probably work out as ~$50 shipping to a MURCer, ~$100 shipping/customs to get to me. Considering the $ I am saving as opposed to buying it here, as well as the total lack of availability, that isn't actually sounding too bad right now.

K, well, I am just asking sellers if they are willing to ship to Canada, and saying I will arrange all shipping including picking it up from their home. If I still get no responses then I might have to send it a MURC route

Found someone who will ship to Canada (that was quick). Weeks of trying and then right after I post I finally get a positive reply (I think the thought of dealing with multiple-MURCers scared the eBay gods)

                            = mine!!

They will almost always slap you with borkerage fees, and any taxes (PST and GST) as it comes across the border.
