That reminds me of driving in New Jersey.

In most of PA and Jersey, there are "jugend" turns, meaning if you want to turn left across traffic, you have to get off on a little "mini-exit" to the right and wait at a light.

But in SOME parts of Jersey, especially near Princeton, you just come to a break in the road... and turn across traffic. No signs, no lights, and LOTS of accidents.

    ------------

In general in the USA, most states follow the "traffic entering circle has right of way" rule, which is (IMNSHO) retarded. In Massachusetts, we do "traffic ON circle has right of way" (we call them rotaries here), which seems to work ok. I don't know how giving right-of-way to entering traffic does anything but cause problems, though.

    I would still get screwed

The other day I went with my dad somewhere and when he drove through one of those roundabouts he stopped before he got on (even though nobody was in it) and stopped whenever there was another car approaching the roundabout while he was in it! His explanation? He doesn't know what they're going to do, they might pull out and hit him or something!

He'd probably have a heart attack if he had to drive somewhere like in that video.

I can't find a good aerial photo of my local Saddlers Farm, which is a work of art in roundabout design terms having a large central roundabout, five smaller ones and a slip road, but Google Earth has a nice shot of the (in)famous Hanger Lane Gyratory

All the local circles that I live near have been replaced by interchanges that are far more easier to navigate without people crashing into one another.

My parents told a story...when my mom was pregnant with me, she was going around a circle with my older sister in the car. She got rear ended or sideswiped by some moron. They exchanged insurance and contact info and went on their way. Well later that night my dad gets a phone call from the Husband/Father of the woman that hit my mom's car, and he winded up being totally belligerent to my dad, threatening to sue him, so on so forth. So my dad chimed back at him with this: "My wife is 7 months pregnant and if there is anything wrong with my child, I'm going to come over and blow your ****ing head off with my shotgun!" Needless to say they where quite a bit nicer after that Meanwhile my father never owned a shotgun
Why is it called tourist season, if we can't shoot at them?
