It is incredible to think that the WWW is only 15 years old. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/5243862.stm

And that my first web page, written directly in HTML, was uploaded to Compuserve just 13 years ago. I'm not sure, but I think the Compuserve hosting at that time allowed a maximum of 100 kbytes!

We referred to HTML as "HateMaiL", and boycotted it actively from its creation until around the time that Netscape released a good enough browser (late 1992, early 1993). We figured it was a fad.

Yeah, no way in hell it was going to replace BBSs.

Internet, WWW? What the hell were those things?

I was still doing construction when I wasn't in school and the last thing on my mind was sitting inside on the computer during what little free time I had. Yep, I was a late comer to actually caring about the whole 'net thing'. Do remember the early years with Compuserve and even some BBS usage here and there prior to that.

I remember receiving Netscape 1.0 from a rep when I worked in Computer City. I took it home, installed it and couldn't figure out why I couldn't get it to work I didn't know I needed a service provider

I remember the original Mosaic browser, which we used on monochrome X-terminals. At the time, there were many browsers that have long since gone; I personally liked NetManage (with a chameleon as logo).

I started with Lynx, and Pine for mail and then moved on to Netscape 2 for browsing

You know, I still use Lynx and Pine on a regular basis.

For some at our departement, Pine is their primary choice of mailclient.

Pine is IMAP based? I remember when I installed OS2 Warp and first fired up the internet browser. i I do miss some of the funky colour ASCII art off those Warez BBS's. I can't remember was the main bbs software Remote Access 2.02. Waiting 5 minutes for a pic of claudia schiffer and then dropped carrier.

I think it supports it (but it is hard to tell if it runs on the mailserver: it could use POP3 and consider the other mailfolders as local folders
                        ).

Lynx, I still use that for my CLI only servers. Those were the days.
