After over 100 races in F1, Jenson Button finally achieves the top step on the podium

Sunday's race in Hungary was by far the most interesting this season. Button Qualified 4th but had to take a 10 place drop for an engine change, yet still finished >30secs ahead of P2. Excellent tyre+fuel strategy in the mostly-wet race played a big part, and it was great to see Honda finally getting that side of things right.

Alonso and Schumi both retired near the end, but Schumi (who has always has had the luck of the gods on his side) still managed to get a point after BMW were disqualified, closing the leadership gap to a mere 10 points.

Just kidding of course, it is great to see him win!

It was a very entertaining race, but at times hard to follow (I couldn't receive ITV, so I was stuck with Belgian TV). I feel that Button was having quite an anonymous race; only in the latter sections, he moved was noticed (by our reporters).

I know you are kidding but its worth noting that Button was charging down on Alonso, so the result might not have changed had he satyed in. Raikonnen went out too early to know, and Schumi wasn't a threat, although he improved greatly once the track dried out (I for one an glad there will only be one tyre manufacturer next year).

Our ITV reporters are more than a little biased, and we naturally focus on the brits anyway (well, anyone not driving a Ferarri tbh ) Martin brundle is usually 1/2 of the commentary team, and for some reason took a holiday this week. I should think he is kicking himself. He was replaced by Anthony Davidson (Honda test driver) which was cool. He was instrumental in tyre choice, which was obviously a big factor.

It is a shame we now have a 3 week gap before Turkey, but I bet Jenson is still on a high.

STOP PRESS: Vielleneuve has quit BMW. Personally I won't miss him as much as Montoya.

Button was very fast in this race and he could have won even without the retirements of Räikkönen and Alonso. Hopefully the Honda team will further improve their cars, so that they can do it again in the dry conditions soon.

@RichL - Heathen!!!!!!! It may not always be interesting for the right reasons, and it may sometimews be a boring procession on a superficial level. Otherwise your assertion is just plain out of date.

I do agree with you on the very last name. 'Nigel' brings back bad memories for me. *shudder*
