Mmm Four Britons out of how many that have visited this year????

Sort of reminds me about Football violence. Five people arrested for violent conduct. Five out of 30,000 so 29995 behaved themselfs which doesn't make the headlines.

Now if this thread said four asians it would be slammed as racist even if the statment was true.

Anyway whatever you do don't send these people back we don't want them.

Yes, four who have committed a brutal, violent and senseless murder. But this is not the first time that exported yobs have murdered someone here. Nor is it the first time that they have been brutally violent. The papers are full of violent incidents each year and Ayia Napa Hospital ER is constantly very busy during the summer months treating the results of this senseless violence. It is rare for the Ayia Napa police not to be called out for such incidents at least 3 or 4 times per night. The fact that 4 of them have exceeded the norms is only to be expected, sooner or later, as has happened in the past. What has been the triggering factor here is that the two victims had nothing whatsoever to do with the altercation that started the event.

And if I'm being racist against people who, I'm ashamed to say, happen to be the same nationality as myself, so be it.

From personal experience at home in Britain, perhaps they have just been conditioned to think that when one is a guest in someone else's country, it is perfectly acceptable to rain down violence against the native inhabitants. If others get to do it to them with impunity at home, they probably feel like they should be able to do the same when they go abroad.

I don't know what gave them the idea that that sort of hedonisic lifestyle is ok and is possible withough consequence.

It's embarassing and upsetting to hear about these kinds of stories. Especially as Brits etc surely are meant to be role models for other nations.

By coincidence, three British ex-soldiers were released this week after 12 years behind bars for murdering a Danish tourist in an Ayia Napa bar. They didn't get life because the Dane provoked them but they were given 25 years each. After a partial amnesty of 1/3 off all prisoners' sentences and good behaviour, they served only 12 years. TP will be pleased to know they were shipped back to the UK under police escort and they are forbidden entry here. I hope they recount to the UK press what life is like in prison here. It might discourage other yobbos from coming out here with drugs or the express desire to commit mayhem or rape.

Well Brian you have me to look forward to for the next two weeks because I'm off to cyprus for a holiday, in Protaras. Just close enough to napa to enjoy some nightlife but far enough away not to have it rammed in my face every second of the day.

I actually quite like ayia napa, much bigger russian and Isreali influence their than other '18-30' resorts I have been to and behaviour is generally a lot friendlier than faliraki/magaluf/malia ect. Ayia napa and the surrounding regions are beautiful places.

In fact, cyprus is one place I think I could exile to for quite a large part of the year.

Very surprised by that. Terrorists get better treatment. Are you sure thats fact and not fiction???

Bonnes vacances in Protaras! Hope you don't run into trouble in Slapper Napa According to yesterday's paper, the police are now clamping down hard there, especially for rowdy drunkeness and driving over the limit.

The only place I enjoy visiting in that region is Cape Greco for its natural beauty, but only out of the tourist season.

If anyone else wishes to visit here, I can recommend where to head for, depending on their tastes and what they prefer doing.

By all accounts, life in the Central Prison (the only one for serving sentences) is no joy ride. Amnesty Intnl have cited it as inhumane on a number of occasions. http://web.amnesty.org/library/eng-cyp/index is a list of the last 10 years' complaints, some of which do not make joyful reading.

Oh, the HORROR! And you suffer yourself to live in such a place?

Cape Greco at dawn is unbelievable. If you stand near the top just as the sun comes out, you get to see a widescreen panorama of the east of cyprus. In summer the sun rises so quickly that you get the 'total-eclipse' feeling of the sun chasing the darkness across the land, it's utterly amazing, like a bullet-time light going on

If you look over the other side, you get the widescreen sea and curvature of the earth, with some nice cliffs.

If it's nature or scenery, walking etc. that you go for, then I'd stay somewhere in the Polis area, where you have easy access to the Akamas and the Paphos Forest.

Paphos itself is fine if you like being in the midst of retired Brits (80% of them plump for a 15 km radius round the city!) but it's superb for antiquities and history (Tombs of the Kings, Dionysius House and other mosaics, Ktima, etc.). The Coral Bay area has some night life, but it's possibly more sedate than Slapper Napper - don't really know as that's not my thing.

                            Hope this helps.
