  • What's happening in Hollywood? (and Cars!)

I took Luke to see Cars yesterday. I have to say it was the most enjoyable kids (or any for that matter) film I've seen in quite a while. Go see it if you haven't already.

However, before the film were 5 or 6 trailers for other PG (Parental Guidance rated) films, and EVERY SINGLE ONE of them was cgi. Whilst I have no objection to cg films, has hollywood stopped employing actors to make kids films? A backwards step imho until CGI is indistinguishable from RL.

But isn't it rather like letting your kids watch a 90 minute cartoon rather than live action? 'dumbing down' in a way? (playing devils advocate).

And I spend half the movie thinking 'where do I know that voice from?' Incidentally, who played the husband out of the two lost tourists?

Can't think of his name, but he was on Spin City and numerous other shows, including doing the voice for the nervous gr****opper [wash my mouth out, I said gra-s-s-hopper ] in A Bug's Life.

As far as CG movies go, I see them as just another medium and CG as just another tool at a film maker's disposal. It is being abused in that it is being used way too much and in places where other methods would work just as well if not better.

That all said, I generally love watching CG-based movies and seeing how far the technologies have come with each film. I'm particularly fond of ones where they use CG to give a more cartoon-like appearance rather than aiming for a life-like appearance. Though, despite all its flaws, I really liked the Final Fantasy movie.

guess because of the same reason you see trailers of action movies when you watch an action movie and you see trailers of dramas when you watch a drama and you see trailers of por ...... ok i guess you got the drift

Hehe. Not sure I buy it though. What is the ratio of movies released to cimena for cgi/live-action? And how is it changing?
