I was wandering the internet Saturday night while watching nascar and found this website. I got excited and looked up the cemetery where my grandpa is on Cumberland Lake in Kentucky and the place was listed but no one buried there was listed.
It irked me, so when i woke up at 12:30 in the afternoon on sunday i decided to kidnap my brother and drive 4-5 hours to take pictures.
I added not only my family there but i added 68 people and 87 photos.
A few days ago i was talking to my father and he had just got back from a trip to PA to research his side of the family and a grave site that was there got washed away in a flood apparently. So all of my ancestors that actually made the trip from Ireland no longer have stones and no cemetary in the United States.
So thats one of the reasons i made the trip. i thought you know what if something bad happens one day and everyone there just isnt there anymore, no really visually easy accessible recorded history of the site.
So in a couple of days i'm going to visit my grandpa on my dads side to take pictures of that cemetary.
So i urge everyone to take a trip to their local cemetary and take pictures for the millions of people out there trying to retrace their family history.
