  • Best games of all time...

Hmmm, just looked through this, and was shocked by the lack of "old school" games in there, apart from two old "Speccys"...

Tech news and expert reviews of the latest mobile phones, laptops, cameras, gadgets and home appliances. We'll help you buy the right product for you

Personally, i would have had :

Mercenary (8-bit days)-> I loved the speed of the Cheese
Elite (8-bit days) -> Freaking huge and everlasting (i was never allowed to play, just watch)
Jet Set Willy (8-bit days) -> Great music, huge...
The Pawn (Magnetic Scrolls [8-bit days]) -> Any adventure by Magnetic Scrolls is beautiful, be it on CPC, C64 or Amiga/ST. Gorgeous, and very interesting...
Tetris (any) -> THE N°1, everyone has tried it, and knows how to play.

    Any comments?
What about your top 5, or "Best 5 for now that i can remember" ?

The Sentinel (The 3D one 8-bit era)
    StarGlider (magnetic scrolls ST/Amiga/CPC)
Guild of Thieves (Sort of sequel to The Pawn -Magnetic Scrolls)

Just had to go have a quick look at the boxes
These were some of the best games of their time...I think i have them on my CPC emulator...

Back after a 3 week business trip! All crecit cards full of expenses, sigh.

My top 5, in terms of personal enjoyment and playtime:

        1 Elite (BBC B)
        2 Quake / Quakeworld (PC)
        3 Subspace (PC)
        4 Rome: Total War (PC)
        5 Monkey Island 2 (PC)

Bearing in mind that I played Elite when I was 6-8 and the only ones I still play are Rome and Subspace. I've never touched any MMORPG thank goodness. Elite comes top not just for nostalgia, but for the incredible ideas in it (using the Fibonacci sequence to simulate randomness ffs!) , getting it to run in 32k of ram (mobile phones have 32mb + now!) and the enormous step forward for gaming in general.

            Favorites of mine would be

            Day of the Tentacle
Captive.. one of the first role playing games I ever played, spent months on completing it
X-Com, enemy unknown/terror from the deep
            Dune II
doom has to get honorable mention for technology advancement, but I played the other games more

Of recent games, Farcry and Halflife2 were great

Does anybody remember "The ancient Art of War"? I loved that game. It was the first semi-RTS game. It came out around 1983-84ish, around the same time as the original Flight Simulator. It was made by Broderbund.
