  • Paintballing? Nah...cycling!

Over a year ago Wifey got us a paintballing experience for my birthday. I delayed it as long as possible, but eventually could no more and was due to go on 16 September (last Saturday).

I feared I would never return, except on a stretcher carried by several large Paramedics, and finally owned up last week.

Instead, and this will amaze those of you that know me, we cycled around Rutland Water (withouth the kids of course). 17 Miles allegedly (although my cycle computer said 25, giving false hope at times!).

The route is described nicely here and a simple map can be seen at the bottom of here.

You'd think cycling around a lake would be on the flat, but no! Maybe 1/3 is but the rest are hills of various degrees. It was a nice day, reasonably cool too so perfect conditions. We plan to go back next year when Luke is a little bigger/stronger and make a day of it. The scenery is gorgeous and there are a number of interesting things to see along the way, including a Bird Watching Centre that often has Ospreys visiting.

I'm really glad I did it and recommend it to anyone with a chance.

Nice - I know it well there (we used to sail at Rutland Underwater when I was little). Once had to jump in though as was covered in wasps (my sister had stepped in a nest whilst we were picking hazlenuts - ouch!)

Get on that bike more often - I've been cycling into work every day and am now down to <100kg... about 25kg down on what I was!

Yes, I really must. Trouble is work is the same sort of distance as that ride, and I don't have 4 hours spare everyday for cycling to/from. Glad to hear it is working for you.

We had quite a few gnats commit suicide on Wifey's eyeballs, and a stampede of sheep to navigate, but no wasps thank goodness!
