Lady, people aren't chocolates. Do you know what they are mostly? Bastards. Bastard coated bastards with bastard filling. But I don't find them half as annoying as I find naive, bubble-headed optimists who walk around vomiting sunshine. -- Dr. Perry Cox

        Not how you're thinking I'm sure... It's "Poo-ket".

I recognise those elephants in Chiang Mai! Have had many happy moments is many of the places you show, except Cambodia and Vancouver (haven't been further W in Canada than Burlington, not far from you!). However, I have been in the other Vancouver (turn S from the BC one and go to Seattle. Then continue S just about as far again and you're in Vancouver!).

should have known that someone who was there would know how to pronounce it

Did it look like it had mostly recovered from the tsunami, or did you still see remnants?

I always pronounce it as "fvck it" (as everyone with a normatively dirty mind really thinks when they see the name in print ) Perfect name for a vacation spot (especially for a honeymoon)

Yeah, I was disappointed when I learned the correct way of pronouncing it.

The main island looks perfectly normal. No evidence of the tsunami anywhere we went, although we pretty much stuck to the resort areas.

We took a tour to Phi-Phi Island, which is still looking pretty ragged. They're about 3/4 done rebuilding the big hotel on the isthmus in the middle.

Map multiple locations, get transit/walking/driving directions, view live traffic conditions, plan trips, view satellite, aerial and street side imagery. Do more with Bing Maps.

Apparently the wave came in from both sides and just obliterated everything. Quite a mess.

The east side of the small island just south of Phi Phi contains the "Viking Cave" which is a major source of nests used in Birds Nest Soup. On the west side is the lagoon where they filmed the movie "The Beach". Beautiful.

Even better, it's "used baby mattress that's made entirely of mommy spit" soup.

Y'know, these were pretty (hey congrats!), but maybe I've been on the 'net too long when there are certain expectations clicking on a link entitled "honeymoon pictures"...
