    'Borat' punched in street attack

13/11/2006 - 16:37:51 Borat star Sacha Baron Cohen has been punched by a man who didn't like his jokes.

Borat star Sacha Baron Cohen has been punched by a man who didn't like his jokes.

Cohen approached the passer-by in a New York street and said in the style of his Kazakh alter ego: "I like your clothings. Are nice! Please may I buying? I want have sex with it."

But the target of his joke failed to see the funny side and punched Cohen repeatedly in the face, according to The Sun newspaper.

Cohen had been on his way to a bar with British actor Hugh Laurie after the pair appeared on US TV show Saturday Night Live.

A friend said: "Sacha couldn't resist playing the fool as Borat, but picked on the wrong person.

You have to wonder what would have happened if he'd done it in New Jersey

He'd probably get beat up pretty good in Jersey, but I'm not sure he'd survive if he went to Kazakhstan though.

If I was him, I'd lay low a while.

I've had a fantasy about that same situation regarding Tom Green.

Yeah but Tom Green just really wasn't funny. Obnoxious, but not funny.

I find no humor in him either.

Tom was actually pretty funny when he was on Ottawa community access cable TV. As soon as he started to make it big, he just started going waaaay too far over the top all the time. By the time he made it to US TV, he was just shockingly annoying.

Wasn't Tom Green the one who had an ice sculpture done of his parents doing it doggie style, then put it on their lawn one morning?

Borat was on the Jay Leno show last night (a few days ago in the USA, but it is always 4 or 5 days later here) along with Martha Stewart. It was funny, yes, but not more so because he ad libbed in such a way that Leno was non-plussed and lost control several times, something very rare. He went into such a tirade of anti-semitism that even Schmo or TX would have seen the funny side, but only a Jew could have got away with it and Leno was visibly uncomfortable.

In a way, but a different way, he reminded me quite a bit of another British Jewish comic who made a world famous name by creating an unsavoury character, Charlie Chaplin.

As for the punch-up, I can understand he can grate on victims' nerves, but violence is really over the top, NY or NJ notwithstanding.
