Run Spybot and Ad Aware back to back in safe mode. Should pick up 99.9% of whatever might be causing mischief, including the garbage that's designed to evade spyware scanners.

Not sure if Spybot's "immunize" feature will do you any good, since you're running Firefox. But it couldn't hurt. Immunize is intended to block activex controls from malicious websites from running in Internet Explorer.

Sounds like it could be a DHTML pop up. If so, it's part of the code on the site and you can't do anything about it.
      P.S. You've been Spanked!

Well, i've had a surf this evening, and nothing untoward has happened, on any of my regular sites, so i'll be happy if it stays that way.

I just find it strange that some web code could do something like that, i was in the stupid belief that things were better now, especially with a valid, good, trusted Antivirus, which i still hold great esteem for, and to have to find and install the "best" possible software to get rid of the rest.

So, If i were to purchase software to complement kaspersky AV in getting rid of spywrae etc, what would it be ?

Zokes, you spoke of "SuperAntiSpyware" what is that ?
Price is not a problem, not having loads of shit at startup IS. I already have too much...

Well the name kinda says it all. It's like Ewido, Spybot Ad-Aware, it's another free anti-spyware software.

The G-Data AntiVirusKit is said to be quite good. Do not ever buy anything at all from Norton or Symantec.

But what you described sounds to me more like a layer-ad, which are annoying, but not dangerous. I can't show you an example (though I think www.bildschirmarbeiter.com displays layer ads), because my Adblocker in Opera blocks layer ads.
There's an Opera in my macbook.

No, Norton and Symantec are both on my no-go lists...I have to deal with the crappy 60 day trial versions all the time with clients pc's at work....

AVG is good for just simple AV, but i need a specific everything but AV, i'm very happy with Kaspersky, for awhile now.

oh, and i run a UK windows XP, cost me 270 odd quid... i must have been really stoned the night i bought a full copy of XP Pro from Amazon.

But i wanted the right to bitch about reactivating everytime i changed hardware (frequently). I have to call the UK call center somewhere in India or Bangladesh. and they just reactivate it, sweet.

GData doesnt offer anything i cant do in hardware. Firewall, i have, anti spam, i use gmail, and have a very limited address book. their security options are ones i can deactivate myself, and clean myself, i so wish.

I was just wondering if there was a 'continuous scan' program to find and destroy root kits and stuff, but i think the AV really takes care of that...

Got a screen cap of one of the messages.
The Ad seems to be the same visual style (colours etc) but hey, change of name...

This screen opened by itself, without me clicking on anything.
I MAY have just passsed over the top banner ad, but nothing else, and certainly no click.

I had already closed two message windows, and i tried to close the whole page when this one came up, but it would not let me.

WinAntiSpyware is one of those buggers that scares people into installing it, and ends up causing way more trouble than it it prevents.

I've arranged to sell my soul to the devil for the privilage of tormenting the bastards who write these things for the rest of eternity. All I have to do is corrupt an innocent. So I'm teaching my eight-year-old niece how to gamble.
