Dec. 18 (Bloomberg) -- U.K. police arrested a man they suspect of murdering five prostitutes in the eastern English county of Suffolk.
The 37-year-old suspect was arrested at his home in Trimley, near Felixstowe at 7:20 a.m., Detective Chief Superintendent Stewart Gull said today in a televised statement. He didn't name the suspect or the police station in Suffolk where he is being held.
Five bodies were found in Suffolk between Dec. 2 and Dec. 12. If the same person carried out all five murders they would be the worst U.K. serial killer of prostitutes since Peter Sutcliffe, known as the Yorkshire Ripper. He was sentenced to life in prison in 1981 for killing 13 women, some of them prostitutes, in northern England between 1975 and 1980.
"He has been arrested on suspicion of murdering all five women and will be questioned later today,'' Gull said.
