I generally refrain from expressing an opinion about islam for various reasons... I just wonder what would happen if "Borat" (Kazakhstan journalist character) was a film about a guy from Iran...

I was just thinking. Most Americans probably don't even know the difference between Prussia and Persia, let alone that ancient Persia is now modern Iran. So how exactly is the movie 300 supposed to be anti-Iran?“Inside every sane person there’s a madman struggling to get outâ€

It's Iranian internal politics. Keep em paranoid.
If your goal is to promote nationalism in Iran to stay in power.
And most Iranians don't know 300 from 200 Motels.
What the heck, float the idea.
It's not like they are trying to convince us it's an insult to Iran.Chuck

Sorry to burst the bubble but all our kids save for Erik learned about Persia, Greece, Prussia and Thermopylae in junior high. They also remembered it since within 2 minutes of the first ad on the 'net I was getting "hey Dad!!" phone calls.
As for Erik (9 today) he's reading "Leonidas: Hero of Thermopylae" (Rosen Publishing 2003, for elementary age kids). He heard Margie and I discussing 300 and asked if he could see it. We explained "no" and why, then at a book store he found it in the children's section and used his own money to buy it.Last edited by Dr Mordrid; 14 March 2007, 16:01.Dr. Mordrid

We all learned about it in school, most people just never paid attention past the quiz. However, I still say that modern Iranians are about as related to ancient Persians as Garfield is to a Saber-Tooth Tiger. The Internet - where men are men, women are men, and teenage girls are FBI agents!

I don't remember hearing anything.
This is not the first time Iran has protested over its portrayal in films made in the West.
There was outrage over the 2004 epic Alexander which showed the Macedonian general easily conquering the Persian Empire."For every action, there is an equal and opposite criticism."
