If you miss your connection from a local train to a Thalys train, even if it is due to technical problems (happenend to me: powerfailure at my station of departure), you are pretty much screwed: Thalys is not responsible for problems with the local network, so they are not obliged to get you to your destination if you miss your Thalys train because of it.

Brian: well, that is an improvement.... But on Thalys the luggage compartement is right near the exists, open and not lockable.

Ah, I c. Well, your plane won't wait either if you local train networks fails to get you to the airport in time.

I agree. But it would be nice if the local networks and the highspeed networks were better integrated. Somehow, one doesn't expect this with airtravel, because you have to get to the airport on your own. However, if you book a Thalys from Brussels to Paris, the ticket includes a trainride from any Belgian station to Brussels. So one would expect them to at least be partly responsible if things go wrong (and at least try to get you to your destination).

Yes, I think I would agree that if your local train fails to get you there in time then they should try and get you a ticket for the next available HST or reimburse or something.
