  • Mr. Erik....

....our 4th grader to-be, goes to college

Advanced math/science/literature classes as part of the Gifted Program at an extension near us starting this summer. We also have the option of sending him to a gifted elementary school next fall, but that's 25-30 miles away. Not sure about that.

We get the full benefit book tomorrow. Basically he was off the graphs on 4 different achievement tests and had a 4.0 for the year.

The rest of the family is floating, but we have a ton of choices to make

        Awesome!

Though I have to ask, what does Erik think about it? I was grateful that my mom always fully involved me in decisions like that. Never had a chance like he has now (schools on military bases aren't great in that regard), but I was always in the advanced classes. If I'd just been pushed in I don't think I'd have been as prepared and accepting of how other kids attempted to treat me.

I'm sure you guys are going to adequately prepare him for this opportunity, and that everyone is keeping in mind exactly what ND66 said in closing.

Still, congratulations to the little man.

I realize that, but how much time does he spend with you & your wife?

Something tells me it’s at least equal to the time he spends with his mom or dad…… or that you & grandma have more patience and time to explain everything to him .

He spends every day with us; I'm his father & Margie his mother.

            He's the last of 4 kids: 29, 27, 23 and 9

Erik said "cool" then went back to reading our magazine stack; Scientific American (with terminology help), PopSci, Discover, Popular Mechanics etc. He's a voracious reader @ ~300 words/min and very high comprehension.

He was actually expecting it as one evaluation test was given purely to determine his eligibility, and he hammered it. We then had a long talk about what it meant etc. Everything about this is a family discussion (brothers and sister too) but we give him a lot of say in the decision making.

Americans may be familiar with the Iowa Tests. He had a "+" at the end of every percentile bar.
