That sinking feeling!

This cruise ship was sinking and the passengers were panicking while the crew were trying to issue lifejackets and get them into lifeboats and rafts. One guy rushed up to the purser and asked him how far were they from land. He replied 2 km. The guy said he could swim that easily and jumped overboard, then shouted up, "Which direction?"
The purser looked over the rails, saw the guy treading water and looking up expectantly, and shouted down to him, "Downwards!"
