Liz do you know what he took?

Doc/Mehen - thanks for the advice.. yeah this doctor seems to be of the sort that starts you on a low dosage and works with you slowly till you both find something that works. When I got out of college I had a stint of migraines for three years which caused me to go through cat scans and mri's I've done the 12 different kinds of medicine cocktails to find what works. If something does work, trust me I'll tell the doctor.

I wouldn't pay too much attention to that self diagnosis test, I bet most of the people on this forum score pretty high on that test. I know I do.
The doctor and I talked about both of these things.. a lot of people with ADHD have been known to try cocaine and it has a calming/focusing effect on them (no I haven't tried it). As for self tests, I always take that kind of thing with a grain of salt. I long ago learned you can be a wiz at seeing other people's situations clearly but as soon as you bring yourself into the mix it all goes out the window.

Liz, sorry to hear about your bro. Sounds like he had the typical/traditional "high dose and look it drugs him out - it's working WHEE!" Doctor. Hope he improves over time!

I'm the least you could do, oh yeah

        I would still get screwed

Yes, thank you Liz for telling me about this and I hope in the long run your brother will be fine. I appreciate the insight.

So this last Tuesday I had my second appointment with the specialist. He further verified that I had ADHD. He gave me a trial run of Methylphenidate. I'm currently allowed to take from 5-15mg a dose up to 3 times a day. Twice for the workday and once for the evening if I want to be productive. I have another appointment with him after two weeks with them. The first day I thought I was misdiagnosed after my first does because I was jittery. However I took nyquil the night before because I was sick and after I ate breakfast the jitters went away. I've been playing with it for the last week and have worked myself up to the 15mg. It's not total yet but I've noticed more focus to an extent. By that I mean instead of constantly shifting my attention from hundreds of different things all the time I'm down to 20-50 things. In a way that's worse since I'm more focused on each thing I shouldn't be focused on. It's also completely killed my urge to snack and I've forgotten to eat dinner twice in less than a week (if you know me you know how unusual that is).

Funny Story - When I had the appointment with the doctor Monday afternoon I went to the pharmacy that night to drop it off so I could start the next day. I was told to come back in an hour. I get home and an hour later I head off to get it. The pharmacy is literally a 3 minute walk away but I was tired... so I drove (not something I'd normally do). I pick up the perscription and go home. The next day I take my first dose and get ready for work.. I walk outside.... and my car isn't there. I freak out wondering if it had been stolen or towed. After about 5 minutes I realized I had WALKED home the night before and left the car in the CVS parking lot. I then rush over and see it was still there and hadn't been towed for being left overnight. In my interest of reading the perscription info sheet as I left the store I forgotten that I had driven there. I suppose you could see the irony of my forgetting my car because I'm getting my first perscription for an attention problem.
