Got up this morning at 8:00 to deliver a computer that the client wanted repaved with 18 hours notice. Mission accomplished. Slept in until 11:00, when a movie I wanted to capture came on. Mission accomplished. Then I plugged in another client's hard drive to do a data recovery. Turned on my computer and was greeted with that lovely sound "CLICK-zeeEET! CLICK-zeeEET!"
They don't call those old IBM drives "Deathstars" for nothing!
That's the first boot drive that's died on me in many a year.
So now I'm hoping that if I can find another identical drive I'll be able to swap the electronics and salvage the info. The alternative is to have it professionally recovered at considerable expense. My Goddamned NOVEL is on that drive!
I've got Eleanor running again using an old Maxtor 80 GB drive that's never given me any trouble (knock on wood). Let this be a lesson to all of you: Keep your BACKUPS CURRENT!
So how was YOUR Labor Day?
Kevin
