    Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

I stopped, BMW behind me didn't! My car 10 cm shorter in rear crumple zone. BMW probably totalled (crumpled with front wheels splay-footed, engine under the passenger zone and rear wheels pushed back by prop shaft)!!!!!

    GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!

Did your car crumple zone perform its duty well?

No. He was belted/airbagged and my head was hit back on the headrest, otherwise I fear it would have been worse for me with whiplash. The dog was harnessed and just sat quietly during the whole affair. He didn't even growl at the cops!

As NW said, a new Honda Civic Hybrid. Fortunately, the batteries/electronics were not affected.

Glad to hear everyone is OK Brian.
It's very high safety rating is one of the major reasons we bought ours.
Glad it lived up to it's reputation.

Sorry to hear of the accident Brian. Glad everyone is ok. It must be frustrating to have that happen to a new car. Post pics of the damage if you want. I hope his insurance is ok. Its quite fascinating that his damage sounds so much worse than yours.

Yep, his insurance company is the same as mine, so there can be no argy-bargy. The amusing thing is that the guy is a lawyer and the fact that he signed a police statement admitting responsibility must mean that he knew that he was more than in the wrong. I had come out of a side turning c. 100 m earlier and the road was clear to the previous bend (about 150 m away) then, so he must have been moving, even though I was probably doing only 45-50 km/h when I braked. The limit there is 50 km/h. Mathematically, he must have been speeding. Maybe he was on the phone, at the same time? Of course he would never admit it.

I'm glad to see your car kept you safe, but that looks like a good bit of damage to the unibody, and I'd hope to get it scrapped. Repaired frames are never quite the same.

Should always allow for someone speeding. If I come out of turning that has poor visability that accelerator is floored until I see everything is safe.
