    blaaaaaaaaaaaargg......

tired, but can't fall asleep. Been happening more and more. (I'm GMT -600 for %#@!s sake!).

Anyone have any tricks that work for them?

The usual reading or light music hasn't been working. I know there's pills and such, but they all seem to cause dependency. My buddy suggested drinking - for some reason I said no

I suppose there's always seeing a shrink, but let's leave the unresolved inner conflicts alone for now

Get plenty of exercise during the day, don't eat late, have a small amount of alochol, go to bed listening to talk radio that's almost too quiet to hear.

Yeah, that's the best strategy for me to fall asleep within 30 seconds as well

How's your breathing? I've had some trouble when my sinuses have acted up that makes it difficult to sleep well.

And if the means happen to be unavailable, even Mrs Palm and her five daughters make a substitute. I have used her successfully on many occasions when travelling alone and I hadn't caught up with the time zone problems.

3-6 mg of melatonin, available US drug stores OTC...dunno about Canada.

Just be sure that 15-20 minutes after taking it you're sitting or laying down, 'cause it'll be lights out real soon

I think my breathing is OK, I usually do have some milk, a certain other suggestion hasn't been putting me alseep , and I do get lots of exercise. (gym for 1.5hrs 5-6 times/week, and hockey 2-4 times).

However, eating before bed is something I have done for many years. It might not be the reason I haven't been able to sleep lately, but if it helps counteract the effects of whatever is doing it now, its worth a try. How many hours before attempting to sleep should I stop? And I think I'll try the talk radio thing too.

                      Thanks guys.

For me a pizza at 9pm means lots of lost sleep. Bed is usually ~11pm. 7pm is probably ok. I guess it depends on how much and what you have to digest.

And make sure you find a station that doesn't have you laughing out loud

I'm thinking its looking like a good idea would be to really load up on food in the morning instead of at dinner (or as well as dinner ). Because I have a HUGE daily calorie intake it would probably be best to get as much as possible in the morning.

Still, I dunno what the ultimate cause is, or if its just a number of things adding up. Every few months I go through a peroid of having difficulty getting to sleep, usually lasting 1-3 weeks.
