  • setting up forums quickly

So if I needed to set up some private forums quickly, how would I do it? Say I had a bunch of people needed a discussion forum where they would be given topics by an administrator. Wouldn't necessarily mind paying.

http://www.cixonline.com/ from back in the old compuserve days

    UK too

Else I once participated in a discussion survey and it was online forum based and they used software called qualboard.

Sago offers leading-edge online qualitative research tools - online bulletin boards, communities, focus groups, ethnographies and more.

    My bad.....

    Maybe investigate BT workspace....

Could be right up your street.

If you want to do it quickly and easily, go to http://www.simplemachines.org/

        It's free-of-charge, to boot.

Flexible and you can have both public and private boards on the same forum.

            If I want a forum, I set up http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PunBB

Fast, small, troublefree, easy (also to administer/install; and you'd want to change some things right away after all, most notably "have to register to view forum/subforum" & disabling new/unconfirmed registartions)

There's also good free hosting for small communities (think MURC (seriously, it could handle MURC no problem)), made possible by one of PunBB creators
http://www.punbb-hosting.com/ (hosts quite a bit of forums and has been up for a long time)

Alternativelly...doesn't Google Groups/Yahoo groups have private forums?

edit: ahh, crap, "old" topic, I'm sure you're already set. Oh well, IMHO good to know about PunBB )
