  • Volt/E-Flex battery choice rumored

LG Chem (Korea) and its North American subsidiary Compact Power International

The competition has been between LG/CPI and A123 Systems

GM vice chairman Bob Lutz said in a local interview that only one makers battery was being used in the Volt mules (test vehicles) and street word is that it's the CPI battery. Looks like they're on the fast track.

LG has said that if they win production would begin in LG Chem's Korea facility but shortly after primary production will be taken over by a CPI plant in the US, most likely in Michigan. This to keep it close to the presumed Volt production facility: the massive (2,990,000 ft²/278,000 m²) Poletown plant in Detroit.
