Customer: If I buy a router can I still unplug it?
Me: unplug?
C: yes, we unplug the broadband cable and move it when we want to surf on the other computer.
Me: uhm…isn’t the reason you want a router to be able to have more than one computer plugged in at the same time?
C: no, I meant; can I unplug the router from the broadband cable?
Me: yes, but then you won’t be able to use the internet.
C: so the router always has to be plugged in?
Me: to function, yes but it won’t break if you unplug it.
C: But if I go on vacation?
Me: as a precaution against electric storms, yes otherwise it’s like any other electrical device.
C: hm… thanks.
And the customer leaves the store still looking somewhat confused.
