  • It's a Jeep thing...you wouldn't understand

Since I gave up on dumping all my spare $ on puters, I picked up a new hobby to blow the bucks on....something the kids have fun doin with me.

Our latest trip last weekend, with the Colorado Jeep Club I joined:

    Core2 Duo E7500 2.93, Asus P5Q Pro Turbo, 4gig 1066 DDR2, 1gig Asus ENGTS250, SB X-Fi Gamer ,WD Caviar Black 1tb, Plextor PX-880SA, Dual Samsung 2494s

It _is_ a Jeep thing. They tried taking the new-gen "Hummers" on that trip, and they all just crashed and burned. There's some great video on YouTube. Guess basing it in the Chevy Tahoe wasn't so smart after all, huh?

    Nice Jeep, though!

I'm the least you could do, oh yeah
If only life were as easy as you
    I would still get screwed

For the cheapskate (or low budget) Get one of the old Suzuki's.

The 410 or the 413 samurai.

            Pure mountaingoaties all.

I won the national offroad championship in a suzuki 410. Cost 1/4 of the competing landrovers, landcruisers, jeeps etc.

And it didnt break. And I could drive it on public roads.

I only just retired it, btw. Its still working, but the 19 years of age (and abuse) had made it somewhat less of a joy to ride on the highway.

            It even swims well...

Looks like fun, I take the kids thru a 'summer maintained' road near the cottage in the early spring. Fallen trees, washed out roads 3ft deep puddles, lots of mud. They have a riot, and I get to dirty up the truck up . Mine's a 99 ranger with 33 in tires and a 5.0L V8 swap in it . Mine's the red one with the hood up here
Yeah, well I'm gonna build my own lunar space lander! With blackjack aaaaannd Hookers! Actually, forget the space lander, and the blackjack. Ahhhh forget the whole thing!

Yea, the kids love it. They describe it as being like an amusement park ride. Fun for us all, and I enjoy workin on the Jeep, makin it more capable to handle the stuff I wanna do. The boy helps me install the upgrades, so he's learning stuff too (the girl doesn't seem interested in wrenchin ).

I've also discovered the wonder of craigslist with my upgrades. Almost all of my upgrades have been found there, including ~$750 worth of tires for $150, my lift, disconnects, brush guard (not yet fully installed, that's what the brackets stickin out of my bumper are for), and other goodies...

second that. my mother had one of the old ones (mid-eighties, red, soft-top with some kind of roll-over protection. lots of fun to drive in Austrian winters on snow and ice, although it became somewhat unstable beyond 110km/h on the highway. never got much faster, actually. nice car to learn driving in, and easy to find on the parking lots. never had any serious troubles, until after nearly 20 years the water pump broke. and: loved the flat springs.

wouldn't want to drive one under real "daily use"-offroad conditions, as in Tanzania. some of the ruts in the "roads" I have seen there would have swallowed the little jeeps whole. the additional length/width of a rangerover or landrover really counts under some cirumstances.
