    I (heart) huckEBAY and fishing stuff

    Just won 4 fishing reels worth about $200 USD total new on ebay for $64.

    Fishing stuff is much too expensive in Canada. With ebay's help I could build a solid Lake Sturgeon or Muskie setup for about $150 CAD. That same setup here would be more like $250+. The price difference on most rods/reels seems to be using the year 2000 60 something cent Canadian Dollar.

    Yeh , Canadian retailers like to have fairly large margins - they don't have the same competition they have in the US. They really don't see that nowadays it's really a global marketplace.

      Must be why over the years we've seen so many Canadian shoppers in border area malls. Many times I've overheard that 'we can't get these in Windsor/Sarnia' etc. or that items here were cheaper even when the Cdn dollar was weak.

        Booze is a lot cheaper in the States too.

        Even paying crappy paypal exchange rates and shipping charges, fishing stuff is usually cheaper from the States too. And a bigger selection.
        I haven't been able to find 8oz sinkers here, might have to pick them up from a guy in Minnesota that casts his own. Not gonna ship 50lbs+ of lead weights

            lol

            Fishing in high current with lots of rocks means between the 2-4 of us that are on the boat we can easily lose 10-12 per trip. 50lbs total is a conservative amount, I wouldn't want to have to order more every year. The heaviest weights I've found here are 4oz, and they are about $1.50 each. The guy in the States charges half of that for 8oz.

              Do you still use real lead for weights? Isn't there an environmental issue?

                AFAIK most of them are painted lead. You can also get Tungsten weights, which are much more expensive.

                  I have been trying to find the non lead sinkers for years, I kept hearing they are available but could not find them at any tackle shops.

                  Until earlier this year when I found iron sinkers at kmart of all places. They had a nice selection of sizes and the prices were quite reasonable.
