  • ULA Delta IV Heavy launch Tuesday (Jan 13)

ULA = a Lockheed Martin/Boeing joint venture launch company

ULA's massive launch vehicle the Delta IV Heavy launches Tuesday with a US spy satellite on board (these things are the size of Hubble or bigger).

Delta IV Heavy is the largest booster in the US inventory until SpaceX's Falcon 9 Heavy comes along in 2010/2011. F9H will have a greater capacity to LEO - 29,610 kg vs 25,800 kg for the Delta IV Heavy (the space shuttle can lift 24,400 kg to LEO).

The webcast link will be posted on ULA's site here a few hours before the launch (time classified til then)

Trust me: Delta IV Heavy launches are cool....VERY cool. The last one was at night and just spectacular.
