  • SyFy Channel to "reboot" 1, or 2, TV series....

SyFy being the new name of the reimagined SciFi Channel

    1. Alien Nation for certain

    2. possibly Quantum Leap

Full reboots, and darker, like they did with Battlestar Galactica.

    IO9 story...
Just How Dark Will Alien Nation And New Quantum Leap Reboots Go?

Firefly's Tim Minear is already hard at work on the Syfy Channel's reboot of Alien Nation, and we asked the Syfy execs about it. But that's not the only classic they're looking at restarting: Quantum Leap could make a comeback.

Agreed. Crazy name change. Most likely there will be a change in the boardroom next year when the ratings drop because of the over abundance of non scifi stuff on the channel and it will then revert back to SciFi.

The reason for the name change is that "SyFy" can be trademarked, enhancing marketing options and limiting the ability of others to usurp their moniker. "Sci-Fi" isn't trademark-able as it was coined by Forrest J. Ackerman in 1954.

They've already lost many hours of my viewership.
Can anybody tell me how their 'ulitmate fighter' crap is even remotley sci-fi?
Play an old star trek or star gate re-run. SyFy (gag) is no place for cage fighting.

My eye keeps wanting to see it as StyFy.

            Hmmm... Let's see.
Take a channel specializing is SciFi, marketed to SciFi aficionados, and change the name to SyFy, market to no one in particular, distinguished in no way from all the other eight bazzilion cable channels.
            Smooth move

I wonder if they would send me a years worth of their marketing directors salary? It would do them just as much good, and I wouldn't require a severence package, so it would save them money.

My wife said the same thing, she was a huge QL fan. Me less so, but I'd watch with her to keep the domestic peace.

Well, the name clearly matches "sygns fycson"...

QL was a nice series, yet I imagine it has room for improvement (and darkening). A series I really liked, but that wasn't given much airtime here was "Seven days" ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seven_Days_(TV_series) )
