Fugu and climate change!!!

Because the Med has increased in temperature, some pufferfish have come up the Suez canal and have now elected domicile round the coast here. In order to prevent fishermen from simply throwing them back, the Cypriot fishery authorities are offering a bounty of €1 for every pufferfish brought ashore in the hopes of reducing their numbers.

It is illegal to prepare, serve or sell fugu in the EU.

I'd like to try Fugu sometime. Maybe if I ever get to San Fran. 'Course, I'd want to see the chef's Fugu license first.

Actually they are pretty bland.

Styrofoam level bland, the 'joy' is in eating and not dying.

I thought it was that you still eat a tiny bit of the poison and it numbs your tongue or something.

All the pufferfish's tissues contain the neurotoxin (actually any of several created by any one of several strains of bacteria in the fish) just not enough to kill - just numb the tongue and sometimes other mouth tissues. Include the wrong issues or even fluids from them though and it's another matter.
