Don't read all the replies do you?

    One more time:

There were TWO robbers and she fired DURING the robbery, at which time they ran away.

Bottom line is that it's perfectely acceptable manners here to perforate a robber while he's in the act. In many states it's even acceptable to shoot them while they're escaping, especially on your own property or when they're still close enough to turn and pose a second threat with their own weapon. The latter is a very real threat - just ask any experienced street cop.

The police and prosecutors are also required to assume the citizen was acting in their own defense until its proven otherwise, not the other way around.

We have a saying here: it's better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6

      No, you don't get it.
A crook threatens your life while robbing you, you have every right to take him down.
And he deserves it. Society doesn't need criminals thinking they have the right to rob you.

If she was threatened with a weapon and managed to draw faster than the thief, then props to her.

It would still be a better place if only the police and army had weapons, like in England, but its probably to late for the USA. Too many already around.

You just have to understand that here, and a lot of places, we do not have the option of pulling a gun, so every other option is our only option.

edit : I personally would have probably tried to spray the petrol on the perps, being a smoker with a light, or tried to get either out of there, or in my car and run them down.

And I would probably have trouble with the law for either of them, except the running away bit

maybe I´m misreading this - but I´d suggest that a city should aspire to be safe enough to allow anyone going out at any time.

As more people are made unemployed and the economy goes down, petty theft goes up unfortunately.

I'm not sure people do this because they enjoy doing it.

Isn't prudence the mother of all virtues ? ( I think i read it somewhere...)

In a perfect world, we could walk around at night without fear....or weapons.

The general perception here in the States is that GB does more to protect criminals from law-abiding citizens than visa-versa.

When law-abiding citizens face trial for trying to defend their lives and/or property from aggressors, thieves and vandals, something is seriously screwed up.

It might not happen very often but when it does the attitude here is, WTF has happened to the mighty British Empire?

                  Righteous kill.

I still prefer to live in a city where I can go jogging at 1am in the morning, through the biggest park in town, mostly unlit, without having to worry.

come on, 100k inhabitants? do you actually call it a city if you know half the inhabitants?

Just realized you could fit Bismark into the U of M football stadium (seats only, not the field) with room left over for two of our city's smaller neighbors

Laugh all you want. It's still arguably the safest place on the planet.

But you're quite correct. There's nothing of interest or value here. Please stay away.

Oh yes, but they aren't stupid enough to steal a purse with one.
They just take you to the cash point and force you to take out as much money as possible.

Have lots of lethal weapons lying around, people will use them, especially crooks.

You're arming both sides, we are not.

You CANNOT justify arming the masses by any account.
