There are already thousands of people running around with nuclear pacemakers; they started making them in 1970. We put in a ton of them, and so did heart centers all over the US and Europe.
The longest-lived one I'm aware of is 36 years and still ticking. Theoretically they could still drive the circuit after 85+ years.

Minor correction: Li-ion are rechargeable and have a short life. The batteries used are Li-anode primary cells. My first pacemaker was replaced after 8 years, my second after 11 years and my third after 3 months (because of an infection). At last check-up, the remaining battery life was min 10 years max 14 years. No Li-ion would last this length of time.Originally posted by Dr Mordrid View Post
