  • "Best Picture" Oscar voting changes this year

I guess this is a response to so many pictures no one had ever see being nominated and winning. The change is mainly because the Best Picture category is going from a list of 5 films to a list of 10.

Old system: 5 nominees with a majority rules straight up or down vote for the winner. The problem is that in fragmented votes a picture often won with far less than a majority of the vote, which explains a lot of previous "WTF?" winners. With 10 nominees it would be possible for a film with ~10% + 1 of the vote to win, an even worse situation.

New system: 10 nominees and a weighted scoring system: each Academy voter makes up their ordered best 10 list. Votes for the least popular first choice are eliminated and those members' second choices are counted instead. The process continues until a nominee receives more than 50% of the votes.

Expected on this years list: Avatar, Up In The Air, Inglorious Basterds, Star Trek, The Hurt Locker, Up, District 9, The Messenger, A Serious Man, Invicus, An Education and Precious have all been mentioned, but curve balls are expected.

Haven't seen them all, but Star Trek or District 9 seem good candidates...

I can see Avatar getting Technical awards, but not much else...

After all the Hype, I was left a bit 'meh' by Inglorious Basterds, even though the acting was top notch from almost all the actors.

I´m waiting for the directors cut inglorious basterds, I had a feeling they left quite a lot out. (e.g. between the "you are recruited for a special group of people" to "hitlers problem" to "fighting in the woods months later" scenes)
