BMW Oracle Racing just presented their entry for the America's cup, making full us of the open regulations:
Rather than using a sail, the opted for a wing! While they are not the first team to try it (who other than Burt Rutan would have tried it before), it is huge!
Now if only they would have more open regulations in F1 and such.... That would boost development! :-)
