GM is selling it to Dutch supercar maker Spyker in a $400 million deal....

Persistence pays off for Spyker's CEO Victor Muller

    AMSTERDAM

AMSTERDAM (Reuters) - Etched on the emblem of Dutch supercar maker Spyker Cars is the motto "nulla tenaci invia est via," or "for the tenacious, no road is impassable," words that have driven Chief Executive Victor Muller for the past few months.

Muller, 50, clinched a deal against expectations on Tuesday to buy Swedish automaker Saab from General Motors in a deal worth $400 million, to merge a niche maker of 200,000 euro ($282,000) two-seaters with a Swedish brand known for its staid yet distinctly styled sedans and hatchbacks.

Compared to escape artist Harry Houdini by the Dutch media for his ability to slip out of tight spots, the classic car fanatic's latest venture will test his ability to navigate difficult terrain.

I'm really hoping this will work!
I like both the Spyker design and the Saab design (albeit different types of cars); and both marques have quite a legacy...

GM did manage to force to Russian influence (and money) out of Spyker...

really thank the gods for this little mercy, i've always admired SAAB cars. they seemed to have a different philosophy than others.

They'll fail and miserably at that. A company that has failed to be profitable for a long time has been taken over by a company that has never ever posted a profit. They're too small, each in their own franchise.

I'm sorry. People who really realy care about this should by Saabs, it's the only way. And it won;t happen.

Hey umfriend, if your statement is anything like your signature, I will rest easily

Spyker would have gone bankrupt long time ago if they were not profitable or at least holding their own. People will buy SAAB's.

IMO, part of it will depend on what know-how is left at Saab (designers, technical knowledge)... From a purely economic point of view, I tend to agree with Umfriend. But just consider Aston Martin: never made a profit, yet still around... The Spyker-Saab combination seems a combination of great philosophies, and it would be great if they manage to pull it off. The combination may be better than the sum of its parts and attract investors...

LOL @ Elie! Given it is 2010 now I may indeed change it.
