You all have heard of Miranda rights - the right not to be questioned without an attorney present. "Read them their rights" is known to viewers of about any cop show.
Well, the US Supreme Court has overhauled Miranda by a 7-2 vote.
The new rule says that after 14 days the cops can again try to question you again, and if you start talking without an attorney present that can't be used to toss evidence gained in the 2nd questioning.
One would think this would be a conservative v. liberal divided vote, but not so.
Majority opinion: Chief Justice John Roberts, Antonin Scalia, Anthony Kennedy, Ruth Bader Ginsberg, Stephen Breyer, Sam Alito and Sonia Sotomayor
Minority opinion: Clarence Thomas and John Paul Stevens
