  • World Cup

I'm kind of amazed there hasn't been a World Cup thread yet. I've watched at least a half each day since it started. It's been a rather interesting cup so far I think.

US is grossly inconsistent, but when they are on they are dynamite. That come back tie [should have been a win] was spectacular. Do or die tomorrow, and I think they can pull it off.

England is still jet-lagged I think. They need to pull out all the stops tomorrow. I'd really like to see the US and England advance from Group C.

Germany was stunning in their first game, then fell apart for the second. I think they are the only team more inconsistent than the US.

The Netherlands are bloody unstoppable in Group E. I'd like to see them and Denmark advance. I watched most of the Denmark vs. Cameroon game and though they had a decent team. I don't think they go past the opening in the tournament, but you never know.

I can't believe Brazil was almost stunned by N Korea, only to have N Korea blasted to pieces by Portugal. I turned that game off at 4-nil because Portugal was just unstoppable at that point. Group G really is the group of death this year. Brazil v Portugal has the makings of an epic match.

And poor France... self destructed. That has to be the biggest shock of it all.

I was happy to see the African teams making a decent show this year. I don't think any of them will advance though, which is a little sad considering the local. I suppose Ghana has a chance, but that depends on which German team shows up and how Australia v Slovakia turns out.

Our team played really well in the first half but USA sportsmen never give up, it was nearly 3-2. Hope we win tomorrow against England!

I've been watching the games almost everyday, its almost a national passion here.

I would say USA has the calibre and capability to go far but IMHO England is overrated (@UtwigMU - lets hope Slovenia wins against England) and this world cup has all the drama off the field as much as on the field.

Practically most of the games so far has been against the odds (strangely) but i suppose once the first round of games are over, we would see the usual suspects bar one or two new teams.

Refreeing has been very inconsistant. Feel gutted for australia, for playing with one man down for more than an hour. I'm of the opinion Kewell's red card is a mistake as well as USA's third goal.

We always do well in the groups and prepatory games. We suck when it matters (with a few exceptions).

I like the coverage the world cup is getting at Colbert Nation ("We beat England hands-down ONE TO ONE!", ROFLMAO).

91st minute goal! Talk about cutting it close.

Didn't catch much of England vs. Slovenia. Flipped over, caught the goal, and thought the US was in trouble.

De Beer says that England and Germany are "high-priority teams" for police and that "beefed-up" security will be similar to that used for the first-round match between the United States and England on June 12.
Extra security for the England v Germany match? Do the UK/Germany fans really not get along that well?

England deserved that goal, I just can't believe how backwards Soccer games are from a technology perspective.

They need cameras in the goal and sensors as well as video playback.

                              That and better refing.
