Police chase ends with man arrested for ninth drunken driving incident
LOWELL -- A 51-year-old Cascade Township man with eight drunken driving incidents on his record was arrested a ninth time Sunday after Lowell police said he led them and sheriff's deputies on a 12-mile chase that ended in his driveway.
Bruce A. Sloan -- who has not had a valid Michigan driver's license since 1986, state records show -- also faces his fourth driving-with-license-suspended charge.
He was to be arraigned Tuesday on the repeat drunken driving and suspended license charges, plus fleeing police, authorities said.
The chase began around 2 a.m., when a Lowell officer tried to pull over an Oldsmobile that was weaving into oncoming traffic near West Main Street and Valley Vista Drive.
The driver took off, avoided two attempts to flatten his tires with "stop sticks," and ending up traveling 12 miles to a driveway near Burton Street SE and Kraft Avenue, police said.
