She was nominated for a Best Supporting Actress Oscar in They Shoot Horses, Don't They? and was great in numerous US and UK productions as well as being an Emmy and Golden Globe nominee. Some of her other films include A Man for All Seasons, The Maids, Tom Jones, and X, Y and Zee.
She also played Lara, Superman's mother, in the first two Christopher Reeve films.
