Henry Cavill, a 27 y/o actor from the UK's Channel Islands.
He was neck-and-neck with Brandon Routh for the role in Superman Returns, but lost out because the director changed and WB felt he looked too young at the time. Was also up for Batman Begins and Green Lantern.
Mainly known in the US for playing Charles Brandon, 1st Duke of Essex, in Showtime's The Tudors. He also played Humphrey in Stardust. He'll also be playing the Greek warrior/hero Theseus in this falls Immortals.
Acting chops he has, and he has the commanding screen presence that means a lot when playing this part. It sure looks like has a head start on the gym time.
Also up were Ian Somerhalder (Vampire Diaries, Lost) and Armie Hammer (The Social Network)
