"Cover stories"? More like many disconnected threads of information tied together by the math theory guys in the intel services. They have models that can do analysis on seemingly disconnected data and detect patterns within it to track down an organizations leadership.

The burial took place aboard the supercarrier USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70), flagship of Carrier Strike Group 1.

What do the real sources and methods they used have to do with the cover stories they use to explain to the public what went down?
        Apples and oranges.

Here is the NYT on how he was tracked down:

I agree, they are like the EIGRP routing protocol, the next feasible successor has already been chosen, sad but true

There was going to be a reply whether Osama was killed or not.

Although I am glad Osama is dead, I actually feel sad more than anything. Why? Because it doesn't solve anything or change anything. Another life lost for senseless violent acts that will continue for eternity.

Also, somebody in the compound used a women as a human shield and she was killed because of it. And there are the 4 children of Osama who have to grapple with the reality of their father's death and learn what kind of man he really was as they grow up.

I see no reasons for celebration. All I see is that we must try harder to find better solutions, if they exist???

It isn't as simple as a new #1 emerging. It is more akin to killing the Godfather.

More likely there will be a dog fight over who's on top.

Exactly. This doesn't change a thing. It doesn't bring back anyone who has died, it doesn't end the fighting, it doesn't even inspire the smallest amount of hope.

Still, good riddance. Maybe those who helped train him will rest easier now.

                        Politico....

                        >
The assault force of Navy SEALs snatched a trove of computer drives and disks during their weekend raid on Osama bin Laden’s compound, yielding what a U.S. official called “the mother lode of intelligence.”

The special operations forces grabbed personal computers, thumb drives and electronic equipment during the lightning raid that killed bin Laden, officials told POLITICO.

“They cleaned it out,” one official said. “Can you imagine what’s on Osama bin Laden’s hard drive?”

U.S. officials are about to find out. The material is being examined at a secret location in Afghanistan.

How long does it take to get a DNA match?

Depends on the methodology used. Traditional methods took days to weeks, but new techs like RapID use DNA microarrays (chips) to do the analysis at CSI speeds. ZyGEM, the company that came up with RapID, is partnered with Lockheed Martin, so DoD has a direct pipeline if they needed one. Another outfit using similar tech is NetBio and their Rapid DNA rig can be used in the field by non-technical Personnel.

In either case they could get a blood sample from one of bin Laden's female relatives (IIRC one was in Boston) and preprogram it with their mitochondrial DNA (easier to analyze - smaller), which is passed on by the mother. If it matched it had to be him or one of his 4 siblings born by his mother, and they weren't 6' 6" tall. They likely also used ear photographs, which are as distinctive as fingerprints.

I'm glad they took him out. If they had captured him he would be a big security risk and there would no doubt there would be highjacking of western airliners, ships and even threats to nuke a city unless Bin Laden was released.

Now I guess the loony towel heads will be planning a holy war on the west most likely starting in the UK as they seem to harbor the best home grown terrorists..

And now he's dead they'll suddenly stop hijacking planes ? They'll stop all their threats ?
Calling them 'loony towel heads' will make them feel better ?
