  • "Stargate : Universe" Cancelled...

I thought it was a pretty good series, and was looking forward to many more episodes and discovering more about the rest of the ship and technology.
    Sad to see it go.

    Anyone else liked it ?

What are they going to replace it with ? crap ?

Here's hoping The walking dead and Breaking bad survive.

One of the best shows on TV and yet another to fall victim to fickle viewers and networks.

The biggest problem with SGU was that it alienated many of the fans that could have kept it on, at least, life-support. That is to say, it wasn't more of the same in the Stargate universe. SGU required more of an investment and asked viewers to endure through episodes that may not have been the greatest, but that helped build on the lore and various plots/story lines.

I think the final episode was fitting and nicely done. Oddly enough though, the final episode was filmed before the show was actually cancelled.

The Walking Dead is alive for at least another season, but even it is close to suffering the same fate as SGU.

At least here in the US, the focus seems to be back on shows that you can miss an episode or more and not be completely lost the next time you watch. Those and the competition/reality shows that are resolved within a season.

I like SGU but I heard about 6 months ago that it was the last ep and it was being canceled. Guess since SciFi changed their name to SyFy it's been downhill with SciFi TV in the US..

Will watch Falling Skies and see what it's like.

The hype is big for that Spielberg production.
What's the plot again ? A History teacher has to use his knowledge of military history to solve problems each episode may present him?
Dukes of Hazzard had better plot-lines. (And Daisy)

Makes me want to beg for SG:U to come back, we're sorry.

I really tried to watch SGU but it was too damn boring. Which is sad since John Scalzi was a consulting writer for it and I'm a huge fan of his books.

I watched SG-U, even though I hated the Dr. Roush character from the start (he would have been the reason for me to stop watching it).
The series was good, but some episodes were quite boring... and some were quite a similar take on previous ones... also I was annoyed by some plot holes... (e.g. in one of the first episodes, Eli puts his arm in the stargate so the connection would not break, and the "jump" would be delayed. The trick worked, but in all the future episodes they were still running for the clock... just use the same trick!)... and some where they tried to resemble other genres too much.

If you've seen the 4th ep you'll notice it's gone all religious (God) all of a sudden. Like in the last 5 mins.

I have nothing against religion, just that you keep it to yourselves and don't ram it down our throats. Or even mention it.

So religion can't be mentioned in programming?

Please note that here the rule book (the Constitution) says "freedom of religion", not "freedom from religion," meaning we attempt to tolerate each others references.

Tolerating is easy. Having it thrust upon you isn't.
Freedom of religion would also mean that on TV you have an equal representation of all religions, so you are not biasing one religion over another. In the US and TV in general, Christianity is in the very large majority. Of course there are 'token' gestures, but quite often stereotyped to the hilt.

                      Religion isn't Earth's saviour, its it's bane.
Religion is a personal belief, that should stay personal.

Religion was an archaic way of explaining the unexplainable.
Nowadays we have science, which explains most of everything. That which is currently unexplainable, theories are given. Religion has no need to exist, and will hopefully die out in the next few generations.

If you want to shift this part over to the religious forum, feel free

Evildead666: I think you are going a bit too far here... While I also don't like series/films where religion takes a prominent place, or where the episodes are either overly moralizing or patronizing (I can't give an example now, but many series in the 90's had this), nobody is forcing you to watch them... It is of course a shame it it happens to a series that you started to enjoy, but worse things happen.

Oh, I think you'd enjoy Southpark, Season 10, episodes 12-13 (Go God Go).

SouthPark really did take the pee with those They took the crap out of many religions though.
I have the "Super Best friends" episode where we see Mohammed uncensored. Nobody bitched about that when it came out.
Just proves the point that Religion is fickle, and only serves it own purpose.
How many of the religions worship Gold ? and Precious jewels ?

"Science be praised!" One of my favorites.

The UK did "The Second Coming" about a supposed second coming of JC. It was a two part mini-series.
OK, it was based on religious principles etc, but it worked very well. I enjoyed it. I would recommend it if you haven't seen it.

After an invasion by aliens from another planet, completely destroying the creationist view, and most of the bible, I would think the majority of the people left alive would have another view on the Bible and such.
They'd spend their time wisely instead of kneeling and praying for God to come and save them. (Not saying all would, but a good deal would be wiped out literally on their knees.).

For me, Alien Invasion is incompatible with any religion. (Except those about aliens being our overlords/progenitors )

Wonder what the Scientologists would do ? Maybe they should have that in one of the future episodes ? lol

I should have noticed the episode was called "Grace", which isn't because something is "Graceful", but as in "saying Grace", which is what the last 5mins were about.

I do suppose I judged too quickly and too harshly. Will have to see what the rest brings us.
(I still think Stargate Universe was much better, this reminds me of 'Battle: Los Angeles', but without 90% of the action.)
