I'm so excited. It looks so good. The Hobbit is one of my favorite books of all time. Too bad we have to wait until next year to see it.

EDIT: Updated with a higher quality video link...thing.

I'm very ready for this. Thorin Oakenshield looks like a bad arse.

Why 12 months between this and the movie release?? This trailer seems to have a lot of finished stuff in it or is WB trying to hype it for all it's worth between now and Dec 14.2012

Looks really good and almost complete!

Will this also be a trilogy?

As I understand it there will be two movies. This one will cover the events of the book, supposedly through Smaug's defeat. Whether the battle of five armies will be in the first or second film I haven't heard. A second movie will come out to cover the events between The Hobbit and LotR. Supposedly it will lead directly into Fellowship if enough of the actors can reprise their roles.

The delay is caused by them filming both movies back-to-back. Principle photography started in July, and expected to end this Dec or Jan. So post-production won't go into full swing until early-2012.

The film is also being shot at 48 frames per second in the hopes that the higher frame rate will make the 3D experience better.

actually: nope, the second one won't be a "bridge movie"

I'll just quote from the FAQ from onering.net

In the early stages of their collaboration, PJ and GDT planned to film the events in the book The Hobbit as a stand-alone movie, with a second movie, or ‘bridge movie’ as it became known, used to address events outside of the primary storyline of The Hobbit, continuing to where the Lord of the Rings movies pick up the story again. Fairly early on, however, they confirmed that it made much more sense to film the storyline of The Hobbit over the span of two films, addressing events outside the story at the same time. ill span both films. PJ: “We just decided it would be a mistake to cram everything into one movie.”
