And, at least where I work, the pre-tax portion of a health savings account is capped at $2,400/year. For all I know, though, that could just be us.
There are lots of crazy rules covering how it works in small businesses. In my last job it started as post-tax, and then they switched plans and it was pre-tax. That was for family coverage, which came out of my salary. My personal health insurance was covered by the company behind the scenes.

And I think it used to be that if you were self employed you were just out of luck regarding a deduction.
      But that has changed.

The rules change all the time as we squirm around under the crushing weight of the medical cost inflation we have here.

Technoid - as more of Obamacare's real ramifications become clear a lot of centrists and Dems are becoming critics - vocal ones. Many of us in (or retired from) the health care sector waved red flags like crazy, but Barry, Harry & Nancy were not listening. Now even former supporters like physicians groups are bailing. This thing is a real nasty can of worms.

To show how many physicians have revolted; the membership of the American Medical Association (AMA), the then major physicians group which supported Obamacare, has had its membership crater to just 15% of practicing physicians. Last I checked it's still going down.

OTOH this week a coalition of new and other physicians and patient advocacy groups are strategizing their next moves, and they're in the mood for a fight.

Peter Schiff, Jim Rogers and Gerald Celente have foreseen the crash of 2008 and also some other economic events. In general I follow them but I don't trust any person or media outlet blindly.

If I had savings it would have been wise to put them in gold. It went from 29 to 42 EUR in a year. There was a recent drop to 38 but it's back to 42. If you look at the chart of DOW in gold you can see that we are at least 2 years from rebound. It is of course not wise to put all savings into once place.

I wasn't pointed out to this by any of the above I found this chart myself.

More interesting is Peter Schiff's take on Occupy Wall Street:

The meagre savings I have did nicely though - 68% in 3 years but they are not in gold but in stocks. I followed Jim Rogers with them.

And his point about free birth control is pointless.
Unless the church want's to deny it's employees health insurance all together then it is helping to pay for birth control, and even abortion, due to the fact that it's employees are in the same risk pool as everyone else. Even their employees that would have to buy separate coverage are covered from the same pot of money.
And even the self insured church affiliated hospitals and what not still carry catastrophic insurance from the general market.
So no, there is no "free" medical coverage of anything. But there can be coverage with no premium. And the organizations money is going towards those treatments whether it want's them to or not if they are participating in the insurance market in any way.

I understood it in the more general sense, that state subsidies everywhere distort market and ultimately raise prices.

And i got the appearance that Obamacare was not that well thought out or various interest groups got their say and too many additions have spoiled it.

I was just recently a victim of too much legislation. I'm self employed providing IT support to one small business with 3 employees and 3 interns among others. Due to some piece of legislation on information security which has over 70 articles we spent 3 days doing paperwork and had to get assistance from a lawyer to bring things in compliance. Fine is 12.000 EUR which is average nett annual salary here. Instead of doing business to pay more taxes for state employees who come up with such bullshit we spent 3 days doing paperwork that will not contribute to bottom line.

I have to admit that I sort of lost track of his argument when he got to the part where woman freed of the cost of birth control would suddenly become Jezebels ordering rubbers by the case as backups for their birth control pills and IUDs.
