        Its destruction was symbolic and not intended to be a 'practical' solution.

            nahh, we're up to the sad fact of a daddy not being able to raise his child to respect him enough that he has to resort to physical destruction as corrective punishment...

            The "punishment" is way way out of proportions and is it really a healthy situation where only the implied threat of violence keeps kids in line?
