That came out of the Miami Herald, including the burglary tool characterization. It goes to character just like the info about Zimmerman's past, often used legally, and that a screwdriver or other such tool can be construed as a weapon is straight out of the school district handbook in our district.Originally posted by cjolley View PostYou can be quite a piece of work when you put your mind to it.Dr. Mordrid

In October, a school police investigator said he saw Trayvon on the school surveillance camera in an unauthorized area “hiding and being suspicious.†Then he said he saw Trayvon mark up a door with “W.T.F†— an acronym for “what the f---.†The officer said he found Trayvon the next day and went through his book bag in search of the graffiti marker.
Instead the officer reported he found women’s jewelry and a screwdriver that he described as a “burglary tool,†according to a Miami-Dade Schools Police report obtained by The Miami Herald. Word of the incident came as the family’s lawyer acknowledged that the boy was suspended in February for getting caught with an empty bag with traces of marijuana, which he called “irrelevant†and an attempt to demonize a victim.
Trayvon’s backpack contained 12 pieces of jewelry, in addition to a watch and a large flathead screwdriver, according to the report, which described silver wedding bands and earrings with diamonds.
Trayvon was asked if the jewelry belonged to his family or a girlfriend.
“Martin replied it’s not mine. A friend gave it to me,†he responded, according to the report. Trayvon declined to name the friend.
Trayvon was not disciplined because of the discovery, but was instead suspended for graffiti, according to the report. School police impounded the jewelry and sent photos of the items to detectives at Miami-Dade police for further investigation.

Had a long screwdriver... GOT DAMN, I musta had a long screwdriver on my person or in my locker dozens of times while in school, shame I didn't knockoff a few classmates with my Shiv, Geesh, can we get off that every kid is a drug addict trippin never up to no good thieving freaks. And about the mystery jewlery... got any followup or are we only here to damn the dead?OTOH the kid was under suspension at school for posession, and had previous school incidents where he had been caught with what were described as burglary tools, including a large screwdriver that would be construed as a weapon in many schools - usable as a shiv, and 12 pieces of women's jewelry in his backpack. Not the innocent that's been portrayed.
The Kid was under suspension for being out of compliance with the schools ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY... eg they found THC residue on a bag, WhoopDeeDoo. He's a kid. Simply coming back from the store with a bag of Skittles and an Arizona Tea, in the rain, with his hoodie up, chattin it up with his GF... ya know he was on the phone for over 400 minutes that day. Wasn't even from that neighborhood, twas visiting where his father lived.
tangent
For the last few years I've been the neighborhood watch, paid by the HOA, ran into many a situation where it could have gone alot worse and am glad I didn't have a gun handy... just for this reason. I can handle myself and do feel sorry for those whom wish to test that out. 99% of the time the police are a complete waste of time because they either do not know the law or won't do diddle because it's private property and or they don't do civil issues, that's for the courts to decide

Now Zimmerman, whom is ~100lbs over Treyvon, was told not to follow and then to stay in the vehicle. Just prior to being told this by the police, he had made comments about Treyvon had something in his jacket and was acting suspicious, like he was hiding something, about how "they" are always getting away with it..., perhaps refering to the previous 6 breakins over the last 14 months while using a particularly offensive N word. Apparently proceeded with haste once off the phone, completely ignoring what the officer had just told him NOT TO DO... but tonight he had his man. The time line the call between Zimmerman and the police ends mere moments before the shooting and overlaps that of Treyvon/GF call, where you hear the gunshot. Other neighbours called 911 to report the incident, where you hear the gunshot and those witnesses believed it was the kid crying out for help. If one is to ignore what is already public knowledge, side with the "self appointed" security guard. Yes that's correct, a "self appointed" wannabe cop with a gun, well he certainly has a future in law enforcement now doesn't he?!
The fact is no one here is capable of stating the facts as they happened. The Holy Grail of truth has not spoken and the only one alive is hiding behind the only defense possible. The Castle law doesn't apply in this case simply because Zimmerman was the 1st aggressor.
I don't care whom it is if anyone aggressively approached me the way Zimmerman did, he'd have a serious issue. Perhaps the gun would have discharged, but not before I'd have beat his head into the ground, or threaten to snap their neck if he didn't explain his actions pronto.
Yes I have been there and am a card carrying member of the NRA. My biggest Q. why wasn't the gun secured?!?!?! Afraid of being beaned to death by Skittles?Last edited by Greebe; 27 March 2012, 21:05."Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind." -- Dr. Seuss

Yup demonizing the kid. I had jewlery, would never say where it came from because it didn't matter. It was found, reported to the police, waited the required time and then picked up. I like the part about the diamonds, that's what the cops said about two of the rings I found. One was glass in a sterling setting, and the other was a Cubic Zirconia on a gold washed silver band. Word got around town, my Grandmother wanted to know who it was stolen from.
