I'm surprised! I anticipated he would have got his fingers rapped with, say, 5 years less 1 year in preventive detention less good behaviour = perhaps another year. I think 26 years must be amongst the stiffest sentences ever here; murderers get life but that really means 20 years.

Not long or harsh enough in my opinion, but certainly better than the norm in a lot of countries. I don't know how prisons are in Cyprus, but hopefully there's karma for rapists there just as there is here in the US.

It amazes me how hard it is for some men to keep it in their pants. May he in rot in prison for the full 26 years.

Put it this way, I would not like to be in his shoes. The Central Prison is reputed to be no picnic. The ex-governor is now on the other side of the bars for having permitted a murderer/rapist to be transferred to a private clinic, from where he escaped and restarted criminal activities (since re-caught with a few more years added). Recently, a 50 y.o. sex offender bribed a warden to lock him for the night in the cell of a 16 y.o. in the juvenile wing, where he was reputed to have raped the youngster. The youngster, in for a simple burglary for 6 months, was given a Presidential pardon. The warden and the 50 y.o. are both in solitary during the investigation. Perhaps not quite as bad as Midnight Express, but corruption is rife and the "Cyprus Hilton" is run by the local mafia with drugs, cellphones, alcohol etc reputedly easily available.

I guess he will find out what it feels like to have his anal orifice stretched along with other brutalities. It would not overly surprise me if he should happen to have a 'cardiac arrest' in the not too distant future, after 'falling down the stairs'.

First degree sexual assault here would get you life with little chance of parole, especially with a 15 year old among the victims (age of consent = 16, adult at 18.) That and a very friendly 6' 2" 350 lb cellmate named Bubba.
