PT and OT have been in for preliminary consults, but the infection was so bad I have ~10 more days of IV antibiotic therapy to go; frankly, I very nearly died because of toxic shock and have so many bags hanging it's ridiculous. 5 transfusions so far too.

All that said, I'm feeling tons better now and my daughter Bree (aka Ellen Ripley II) has taken on the role of 'Family Team Leader' and 'Daddy's Chief Protector & Advocate'. A bulldog, she is

We're talking a pistol packin' tough chick who doesn't take no or maybe for an answer. As if I'm going to tell her no? Uh-uh....you first

I set out to raise a strong girl who could stand her ground with the guys and still be feminine, and got her in spades. Too late to back off now.

          Anecdote:

when she was 12-ish and "blooming" this guy endlessly tormented her over her boobs. When she finally cracked she grabbed him by his shirt & pants, shoved his face into his locker and told him -

"one more word about my boobs and I'll pop-rivet your dick to this locker door!"

So whats the state of internet connectivity/entertainment in your hospital bed, Doc?

And by entertainment I don't just mean the nurses!

HD cable and Wi-Fi, both free with the room.

I be in da butter zone

What I'm lacking is strength - it's a long climb back from toxic shock and I'm craving protein like a cheetah. To help rebuild / heal my tissues they have me on multiple doses of a supplement called Juven which is supposed to help, but steaks & sausages would taste better.

Help support healing with just 2 packets of Juven® per day. Learn more.

Well, my first attempt at sitting on the side of the bed for dinner went well, right up until I slid off the edge because of a slick surface (very similar to ballistic nylon) on the matress. Ended up on my arse, on the floor. Got back up on the bed with a bit of help, and mad as a wet hornet.

Tomorrow is another day - Ka'Plah!!

Pain levels near zero save for a bit of phantom "pain." I think a lot of this is due to long-lasting (48 hr) nerve blocks (femoral and sciatic nerves) pre-op, which minimize the nerves from taking a highly stimulated "setpoint" post-op. I am told this is becoming a default technique among many of the area podiatric surgeons due to the demonstrated results.

MAY be moving to a PARC (post-acute rehabilitation center) next week. Think in terms of a smaller hospital setting (doctors, nurses, continuing drugs, antibiotics etc.), exercise gear, physical & rehab therapists, progressive appliance & prosthetic fittings etc. Could be there up to 2 months.

Anecdote: physical therapy gal wanted to evaluate the strength I have in my stump, so she has me elevate it, wrapped her arms around it (I have very large leg muscles) then says "pull it down hard." I yanked her off her feet and she ended up laying across the foot of the hospital bed. Going the other way I nearly lifted her off the ground. Tests passed.

The surgeon got wind of it and we both LOL'ed about it today

And yes, she was pretty but I was too busy with my inner giggles for much else.
