  • WB announces Batman/Superman film, The Flash & Justice League

Zack Snyder will direct the follow-up to his "Man of Steel" in 2015 with a tentative plan for "Flash" and "Justice League" movies to follow in 2016 and 2017, respectively, sources confirm to THR.

Zach Snyder will direct the follow-up to his "Man of Steel" in 2015 with a tentative plan for "Flash" and "Justice League" movies to follow in 2016 and 2017, respectively, sources confirm to THR.

After decades of fighting evil solo, Batman and Superman will finally be teaming up on the big screen, multiple sources confirm to The Hollywood Reporter.

Warner Bros. is expected to announce at its Hall H panel that as the follow-up to Man of Steel, it is pairing two of the most recognizable superheroes in the world for a one-two punch that will be directed by Zack Snyder.

Henry Cavill will reprise his role as Superman, but it is unclear who will play Batman in the new film. A release date of 2015 has been set, with tentative plans for a Flash movie appearing in 2016 and a Justice League movie in 2017, sources said.

David Goyer, who co-wrote Man of Steel, will write the script. Rumors of the team-up movie have been circulating Comic-Con for a couple of days.

Snyder's Man of Steel, which rebooted the Superman franchise, has grossed north of $600 million worldwide since it hit theaters this June.

Batman and Superman have a long history of teaming up in the comic book universe. Starting in 1954, D.C. published a comic titled Worlds Finest, which featured the two as best pals who joined forces.

The dynamic between the two changed with Frank Miller’s 1986 The Dark Knight mini-series in which the two were on opposite sides of the philosophical and political fence.

Since then, that sort of antagonism has permeated most of the stories involving their interaction.

The Batman & Superman film is an interesting zigzag as D.C. builds toward a Justice League movie. Most expected D.C. to work toward its team movie with films featuring individual heroes, the way Marvel has done, or the opposite: one big movie leading to individual outings.

Teaming up isn't the word I heard. This is the description of the end of Snyder's ComiCon panel:

Zack Snyder came on stage at the end of the Warner Brothers panel to give the announcement, and enjoyed keeping the crowd on pins and needles for as long as he could. Here is what he had to say:

Man of Steel will get a sequel featuring Superman and Batman together, though it looks like they may be enemies this time around; the quote given at the panel by Harry Lennix was, “I want you to remember, Clark, in all the years to come. In all your private moments. In all the years to come, my hand at your throat. I want you to remember, the one man who beat you.” A combination Superman/Batman logo flashed at the end of the panel.

I really don't expect a long lasting issue - when they first met in the comics it wasn't roses & champaign either. Even in Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns (the source of that quote) the acrimony ended after their final battle. In the Marvelverse Thor and Iron Man had quite a fight in Avengers, but they ended up working together.

Taking a ride in the Wayback Machine, remember this from I Am Legend? Wonder if they'll recycle the logo?

A bit fuzzy, but this is the logo from the announcement outside of a video, and there are rumors that somewhere in the MoS arc we'll see Kara Zor-El - Supergirl.

Rationale: her appearance in the prequel comic and the empty pod in the Fortress in MoS.

Looking forward to this, I'm really interested who they'll be casting for Batman this go around, I know the early fav is most likely Joseph Gordon-Levitt, since it seems like this is going to be set in The Dark Knight universe from what I've been reading.
Why is it called tourist season, if we can't shoot at them?

I think JGL would play Nightwing since he was "Robin" in Dark Knight Rises. I think they'll go a bit older & bigger - 6 feet or over.

Better version of the logo -

I really hope any sequel to Man of Steel attempts to add some reflection on Superman/Clark's part for the wanton destruction in the film. That would actually be a good basis for any animosity between Batman and Superman.

Pretty much. Superman would feel remorse both ways and Bats would say good riddance and look on the damage as urban renewal.

Wonder who would be the villain? The movie can't just be about Batman and Superman, they must team up at one point against a greater force.
Oh and I would like to see Christian Bale return as Batman.

My choice for a villain would be one used in the comics and animated series to good effect; a nexus of the corporate Luthor and the Kryptonian AI version of Brainiac. The LuthorCorp building sign was in the film so that's the Luthor their using, and the destruction of MoS would set the right tone for suspicion of Superman's power, both from Lex and Bruce.
