  • Lobo (201x: Warner-DC)

Deadpool created a monster - now it appears the **really demented** characters are getting films.

The long anticipated Lobo movie is back in development at Warner Bros. as Wonder Woman and Pan writer Jason Fuchs has been brought on to pen the script.

As the ‘Dawn of Justice’ looms, Warner Bros. continues to look at their ever-expanding slate of DC Comics films and it would seem they’ve settled on another project. TheWrap brings word that Lobo is back on at the studio and Wonder Woman screenwriter Jason Fuchs has been tasked with penning the script.
    >
Created in 1984 by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen, Lobo is a Czarnian (originally Velorpian) bounty hunter who, as a nearly indestructible anti-hero, drives a space-faring motorcycle across the cosmos in search of his next target. The character has fought some of the most powerful members of the DCU including Superman, Hal Jordan, Martian Manhunter, and Deathstroke. Some verisons of the character have aired on the side of sillier tales, seeing the character take down his fourth grade teacher and even the big man himself, Santa Claus.

Seeing how the last DC movies had normally "thou shalt not kill" characters go around killing like crazy and causing city size collateral damage I'd imagine that Lobo will either cause extinction level damage to the DCU earth or be a pacifist with foam weapons and nerf guns.
If there's artificial intelligence, there's bound to be some artificial stupidity.

I guess that'll depend on the universe of any single movie Lobo ends up in?

I'd remind you guys that the "No Kill" of many characters including Batman was a result of the imposition of the Comics Code in the late 1940's. That in turn was a reaction to horror comics, true detective style pulps, and Batman who killed with impunity. At various times Bats

        Dropped crooks off skyscrapers

Machine gunned an escaping vehicle from the Batplane

Carried a .45 automatic, and used it

Broke criminals necks using kicks or wrenching their necks

Dropped a criminal into a tank of sulfuric acid

Lassoed a crook around his neck from the Batplane, hanging him

        Etc.

This disappeared under the Comics code except for war scenes, but it resumed in major style with the Frank Miller Dark Knight series. This influenced the 1989 Batman film where

The Batwing had machine guns and missiles

The Batmobile had 2 chain guns and bomb dispensers, which were used to blow up a factory with people inside

MoS's tone was based largely on the Man of Steel comic series of the 1980's, including the birthing matrix and other items, and a major late BvS plot line comes from a series I will not name as its very name is a spoiler.

In many ways these films are a return to the 1939-1945-ish roots while allowing the characters to move towards more familiar characterizations as they become a team, especially under the influence of Wonder Woman who was very well done.
