I think I blended in. Quite a lot of people didn't ask me where I'm from after I spoke a few words, someone even asked me for directions to public library. Whenever I'm on a trip people ask me for directions (happened even in Asia) and in my own city where I was born people assume I'm a foreigner and start speaking English.
I wouldn't say NY is loud. In my city the loudest table in a place are usually the Americans or the Italians. In NJ I was in restaurant filled with Americans and it wasn't loud at all.
People opening up: I asked the contractor who came at the end of the show to help take apart the stand how he spent his week. White gray longish wavy hair, mid 50's. "I took care of my mother" he said. "She asked me same question 5 times in the last hour. I bought her Alexa and told her to ask Alexa. Mother says isn't Alexa going to become tired and I tell her no. At night I unplug Alexa and tell her, Alexa is sleeping. The other day I put on a record and she started dancing at 80 years old. I danced with her through entire record, then she started crying at the end. She told me I dance like my father used to. You gotta spend time with your parents while they're still around."
At around 10pm on Manhattan avenue, Billy, a homeless guy with long wavy light brown graying hair, a beard and a tall cap asked me for some money, anything. I gave him some coins asked him: What's your story, I'm from Europe, you can tell me. How did you loose home?
- I lost family in car accident, I fell into depression, lost my job.
- When did the accidenthappen?
- 6 years ago.
- I talked to a homeless guy in my city with same story. He even showed me papers from psychiatric hospital. You don't look like you're an alcoholic.
- I don't do drugs, I don't do alcohol.Then around half a year ago I lost my job I couldn't pay for the room. For about 3 months I've been sleeping on the streets (it was in the teens Fahrenheit the night before). Two weeks ago I broke my finger (his right hand finger was bent and swollen).
- What did you do, what kind of job did you have?
- I was a carpenter helper.
- What's with the finger, can't you have it examed? What about Obamacare?
- Obamacare is garbage they won't help at the hospital.
I gave him a whole Dollar on top of the change I gave before and told him: God bless you Billy.
He thanked and I continued walking.
